During the first week of February 2017 the 16th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was celebrated here in Bogotá. A group of our students had the honor to participate as part of the internationally recognized youth program known as “Leading by Example”.
In this event over 25 Nobel Peace Laureates and leaders of Nobel peace organizations participated, as well as experts within the peace-building community, government leaders and academicians from universities from all over the world.
This great event mark two emblematic occasions in Colombian history, the celebrating of the end of a 52 year long armed conflict and the awarding of the 2016 Nobel peace prize to President Juan Manuel Santos.
Our students had the priviledge to attend wonderful conferences such as; “Peace and democracy”, “Peace and sustainable development” and “Peace and Education”, additionally they participated in plenary sessions and workshops with international students held by Nobel peace Laureates.
Some of the Nobel Peace Laureates that were present were: Jody Williams, Oscar Arias, Rigoberta Menchú, Mohamed El- Baradi, José Ramos- Horta, Leymah Gbowee, Shirin Ebadi, Tawakkol Karman, Rauf Al Malki, Lech Walesa, William David Trimble, Wided Boucharmoui, and the President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos.
